Items Needed

Here are the items that you will need. There is a 1 month cycle before adding organisms. Then, add clean up critters: snails, hermit crabs, etc..Enjoy!!

Aquarium/Tank: It is recommended to begin with something of 20-40gal. Aquarium Tank 20-200$
Sea Salt Mix: This is needed to make your own salt water. You can also buy at the store, but this is more convenient. Sea Salt Mix 30-60$
RODI System: RODI/Reverse Osmosis De-Ionized water is used as primary water with salt mix. (Avoid tap water) RODI Filter 150-300$
Live Rock/Substrate: I Recommend "Dead Rock" as in curated without any living organism on them. Live sand is entirely up to you. Live Rock/Sand 5-8$/lb
Filter: It is recommended you go a larger size filter than standard suggestions. Also, get extra filter medias; carbon, polyfiber, etc.. Filter 30-100$
Heater/Thermometer: The average ocean temperature is around 76'. Organisms such as coral will wither with only a few degree changes. Heater/Thermometer 20-60$
Salt Water Test Kits: It is important to test water quality. Salt water test kits checks important water chemistry. They must be in within specific ranges just like the ocean. pH:8.4, Gravity:1.025, Alkalinity:8-12 dKH, Ammonia:0, Nitrate:0. Salt Water Test Kits 10-30$
Lighting: Don't go cheap, as this item is important for corals and organisms. Reef Lighting 160-300$
Tools: Gloves, siphon, bucket/containers, magnet/algae scraper, nets, towels, large tweezers etc.. Maintenance Tools 40-80$
There will be failures and successes, but it is part of the hobby. It is okay to make mistakes, but it is not okay to give up. (Unless it's totally out of your control) Total 600-1200$
